Mount Vernon

I took the kids to Mount Vernon today.  We left kind of late in the day, so we didn't get to see very much of the estate, but we bought a year family pass, so we can go back and visit a few more times over the next year.

 George Washington's Mansion

These are the graves of George and Martha Washington.  There are also several other members of the Washington family buried in and around this building.

Baby Proof

Our baby likes to empty things... her toy box, the cupboards, dresser drawers, boxes of wipes, boxes of Kleenex, toilet paper rolls, the DVD baskets... you get the idea.  Last night we went to Home Depot to get a new light fixture for our dining room and I bought a box of child safety latches.  It was time.  I'm hoping they work for a few days, but as smart as she is, she will probably figure out how to work them by this evening.

One Year Anniversary!

Last year, on August 14, 2012, Caleb endured a bone marrow transplant and Brooklin endured a three hour bone marrow harvest.  I am so proud of them both.  Caleb for being so courageous and brave during his month long stay in the hospital and Brooklin for her immediate willingness to be his donor.  A lot has happened this past year; some hard things, some amazing things, but the things that stand out the most are the numerous miracles we have experienced.  God gave us the hardest things we have ever had to go through, but he also surrounded us with angels...literally.  I am grateful for this experience.  We are unable to fully comprehend the sweetness in life without having the experience of tasting the bitter.
